T he 1860 census was the last one before the Civil War. It did not list enslaved people, so all the individuals listed are white. Fairview’s enslaved population was less than 10 percent of the general population. None of the residents were foreign-born, and very few were born in any state other than North Carolina. There was almost no foreign immigration to the south after the Revolutionary War. In 1920, more than 92% of NC residents were born in the state.

I have copied the names exactly the way they are listed on the census. The numbered order reflects the way the census taker traveled, so people are listed next to their neighbors. First names, second names, maiden names and corrected spellings are included in parentheses; “m” and “f” listed after names stand for male and female. All were born in North Carolina unless noted by state abbreviation.
